Heart Disease Events and Associated Costs in US Adults with Uncontrolled
Hypertension and Multiple
Cardiovascular
Risk Factors” presented at the American Society of Hypertension
20th Annual Scientific Meeting and Exposition.
The Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcomes Trial—Lipid Lowering Arm (ASCOT-LLA) demonstrated that concomitant antihypertensive and lipid-lowering therapy reduced the risk of nonfatal myocardial infarction and fatal cornary heart disease (CHD) significantly more than antihypertensive therapy alone in patients with uncontrolled hypertension (HTN) and multiple CHD risk factors. This study determined the prevalence of uncontrolled HTN with multiple risk factors among US adults, as well as the clinical and economic burden of all CHD events in these patients.
