S. Battleman, MD, MSc, MBA | Principal |
Dr. Battleman has over 15 years experience in
the life sciences and has worked in a variety of settings, including
healthcare consulting, the pharmaceutical industry,
as well as in academia.
Prior to joining ValueMedics, Dr. Battleman served as a management
consultant within the healthcare practice of Bain & Company, a leading
global strategy consulting firm.
In industry, Dr. Battleman served as the Director of Cardiovascular
Outcomes Research for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Inc. and was responsible
for developing
value-based product strategy and communications across Pfizer's
cardiovascular portfolio, ranging from early stage to marketed products.
Within academia,
he served on the academic faculty of Weill Medical College of Cornell
University as an Assistant Professor of Public Health and Medicine.
At Cornell, Dr.
Battleman’s research interests focused primarily in the areas of quality
measurement and value assessment in healthcare and as such, he
has published both original research and expert reviews in these
areas.
Dr. Battleman is a two-time recipient of the Quality
Care Research Award from the Academic Medicine and Managed Care
Foundation and currently serves as an editorial reviewer for Medical
Decision Making, Value in Health
and Medical Care. He has also done substantial independent consulting
work for several large managed care organizations and other payer
groups in the
area of technology assessment, reimbursement policy and total quality
management.
Dr. Battleman received his medical degree from Cornell University Medical
College and earned his MBA from The Wharton School. Additionally, he has
a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public
Health. He is a board certified Internist and maintains a voluntary clinical
faculty appointment at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Most recently, he was appointed adjunct Senior Fellow to The Leonard Davis
Institute of Health Economics of The University of Pennsylvania.
